- Drop In – Community Drop-in held every Monday 11.00 am – 1.00pm devised for getting together with new and old friends and community members for sharing lifeskills and raising awareness of Mental Health – Fund by Community Regeneration
- Rural Touring – Bringing city events to rural communities to sustain the use of village halls and providing entertainment for the community. Funded by Dumfries & Galloway Arts Association and Building Healthy Communities
- Kirkholm Crier – Community Newsletter for Kelloholm and Kirkconnel editorial group being set up – new Volunteers required. Funded by Community Regeneration and Building Healthy Communities. Promoting Partnership working with NCVS
- Cooking and Physical Activity Pilot Project – One year pilot course giving Primary 6 children from Kelloholm and Sanquhar Primary Schools each a 4 week block of cooking lessons with their parents, guardians or senior 6 pupil Mentor and linking in Healthy Eating and Physical Activity. Funded by Scottish Community Diet Project and Building Healthy Communities
- Upper Nithsdale Young People – Increased youth participation in Community Activity – Consultation with young people being currently undertaken. Funded by Building Healthy Communities and Community Regeneration
- Mums and Mums 2 B – Improved access to support for and between mums which reduce feelings of isolation and raise confidence levels and to provide and increase in formal and informal network of support. New members welcome. Funded by Community Regeneration and Building Healthy Communities
- Sign Language – To promote sign language as a third language within North West Dumfries
- PA Report – Following a year long consultation with members of Upper Nithsdale a report has been published on the findings of Barriers to Physical Activity and Healthy Eating within Upper Nithsdale. A Sub Group has been formed to discuss where to go from here with the report. New members welcome. Building Healthy Communities funded the publishing of this report. Mental Health Issues

Domestic violence or abuse
Feel isolated and lonely
Have low self-esteem and lacking in confidence
People with disabilities
Experienced unemployment
Experience of exclusion
There is a growing recognition of the health gains of volunteering. This means that there is an increasing interest in voluntary work. Research in the last decade suggests that 50% of the adult population in Scotland volunteered at least once in the past year. |
